The CDC reported in 2016 that approximately 20% of U.S. adults live with chronic pain due to injury or diseases such as arthritis. Arthritis affects people of all ages and is the leading cause of disability in America. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, the most common being osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), fibromyalgia and gout.
Movement can be very painful for people living with arthritis due to swelling, stiffness and joint pain. All of these affect an individual’s rage of motion and ability to engage in the activities of daily living. And yet, doctors and rheumatologists recommend movement as part of a plan for managing pain and arthritis.
